Dragon & Scale Thread — inventory (2026-10-20)

Every spot where the dragon / dragon scale is doing central, not incidental, work:

  1. Ch.1, dawn: the Dragonstone (Gree's already-found carved stone) cracks in the cart; the scale falls out, unrecognized.
  2. The crack is felt by Sedrak at a distance, not heard by anyone present.
  3. Ch.2 fireside: Gree's gift-giving scene (already written) now hands over the Dragonstone itself, carved with moon phases that symbolize Clal's own pain and growth.
  4. Ch.3/4, Morry's inn: the scale gets shown to Rythe — a shared mystery, nobody yet knows it's Sedrak's.
  5. Exam hall: a dragon statue already stands there (line 902-904).
  6. Hero's Chamber: a wall already depicts a white dragon carrying a stone over the ocean (line 1988) — the Book 1⟷Book 6 mirror, already locked.
  7. Amnbir: Gulnerye reveals he knew their father and establishes the dragon (Sedrak) as what they need to seek — confirmed, the dragon appears because they ask for him.
  8. Dragon Tail River / the dragon summoner horn (existing text, ~3146 onward) — the search for how to summon the dragon.
  9. Climax, Sedrak: "son of Dalbus," the heart-scale sacrifice can be named here — not yet written as an explicit on-page moment.
  10. Series bookend (already locked): Book 1 opens with the scale stone; Book 8 closes with a stone like the stone seed, the scale returns, Clal's father receives it.

Origin-Story / "Who Am I" Thread — inventory (2026-10-20)

  1. Lindsay's framing, adopted: origin = motive. Finding out who he is should be why Clal wants to find the dragon, not incidental to it.
  2. Ch.1: Gulnerye says "Dalbus" — plants the name.
  3. Ch.1: Willa's broken reveal names the wound directly.
  4. Ch.1: the inheritance handed over a year early — urgency tied to identity.
  5. Ch.3/4 inn: twins confide in Rythe; Rythe's own "I never knew my father either" mirrors them, with dramatic irony (Renthar).
  6. Gwynn (later): already told by Willa's note — the next adult with a living connection to Nareete.
  7. Sedrak's "son of Dalbus" — the dragon confirms the bloodline directly.

Gap flagged, not yet resolved: nowhere in the current outline does Clal explicitly connect the two threads out loud — the quest to find the dragon is currently driven by plot necessity (they need the dragon's help against the RISHK), not by Clal naming his own desire to learn who he is. Lindsay's note was that origin should be the motive, not run parallel to it. Worth finding a moment — likely before or during the Dragon Tail River search — where Clal says, in some form, that finding the dragon matters to him personally, not just strategically.
