Legends of Clal
Book 1: Skyland Rising
Opening Scene
The false wind screamed in their ears as they approached the final bridge before reaching the sea shore. Sand and leaves were made to be a constant shower about them as they moved closer to the raging waters. The beginning and the end had commenced all at once. There was no safety here, yet, somehow, their refuge was as real as the stars in the night sky.
Clal Meets the Dragon: The Ancient Beauty
“The dragon is just beyond those trees.” Skyla spoke as she pointed with her hand.
“Have you ever seen the dragon?” Clal asked. “I’ve heard of them but…”
“I have,” she answered. “Many of us have.”
Previous Chapter: Clal receives the f’element and is visited by Lady Wind (Illia)
Song:
Above the oceans, lands, and clouds
The winds of earth may sing aloud
In constant song of onward light
Of birds that wing a lighter flight
But if the ear finds no such voice
Such things as this require a choice
For though the arts of sound are learned
Its greater part must first be earned
Climax Scene
Clal was conscious of his legs moving and that he was traveling from the borders of Edaphlas to where Sedrak lived but all that he could think about was the voice of Lady Wind and the wonderful things that she spoke. The f’element and its purpose was still unsure to Clal but the words that he had just heard would not leave him. Yet, the words of caution unnerved Clal. To think that there will be forces employed to halt his quest was an unsettling thought. He simply must be careful.
Their quest was almost complete and they would be traveling home soon. Clal was surely ready for some time to ponder on the events of the day, and of the past weeks, and of the past month. His life, as it was, had turned out to be drastickly different from what he had thought. As Larkin and Skyla led them again towards the dragon’s abode, Clal wondered what it would be like to ride upon a dragon. He watched as Sedrak’s cave came slowly into view as they trudged through the snow and frozen forest trees. Ryth and Ansa were just behind Clal. They were quiet, most likely thinking about the same things Clal was, the words that Lady Wind had spoken.
Finally, they arrived to see Sedrak still and peering out beyond the edges of the floating island. Clal knew where he was looking, it was in the direction of Hanone, the old world, his first home. A place that, until meeting Sedrak, Clal had never really understood the place. But he had seen it now and through the words of Sedrak his understanding of its meaning for Illia and for him was made known.
When they reached Sedrak the others stopped a bit off but Clal continued to walk towards him until he was beside his neck. Sedrak remained still.
“Sedrak” Clal spoke softly “we are ready.”
The dragon did not move. Clal could tell his breathing was slow and steady. He made no sign that Clal was there. As Clal’s thoughts deepened as he waited for Sedrak to move he was confused unsure of how to react. Then, Sedrak spoke as he stood.
“Deeds must be done and time must be broken, when found is the one, the promise is spoken.” Sedrak spoke these words slowly. He paused then turned his long neck around to face Clal. Clal looked into the eyes of the dragon, they seemed to him full of life and fire, deep, ancient but like Morgreth’s; alive and bright. Clal had never looked into his eyes before. He felt safe. He looked at Sedrak until the dragon spoke again.
“These words…that have been spoken here, were given to me by Ottomus the wizard when I left those shores to place the stone upon the waters.” The dragon broke his gaze with Clal and looked out toward Hanone again then spoke. “He told me that ‘the one’ would come, that he would find me, and take me and that I would aid him, aid you…with the deeds that must be done. He told me that time would have to be broken, cast aside, reworked by ‘the one’ to come. (He told me that time would break, that all things would pass away, and that I would see this come to be.) You see, Clal, we are bound to the one stone, you and I. Our end is common, it is alike, your task, your fate is kin to my task and my fate. Thus, we must be bound together, to the end Clal, till the end. The promise is that we see this done. There are things that you can do, must do, that I am not appointed to do. Yet, I will aid you; I, a tool. And there are things that I must do that you cannot do, but that you must see that I do them.” Sedrak turned toward Clal once again.
“I know that these things are spoken half in shadow and do not cast understanding, yet, upon your mind and heart. But you will understand this, it will come to fruition in time, and you will know what to do, where to go, and how to continue on the path that has been laid before you. The promise is that we be one.”
Clal spoke, “
28 June 2009
“No,” Clal shouted and leapt to his feet. He was still in the sleeping chambers inside the castle. He had been awakened and was startled. There before him were all of the boys that had been summoned to the castle on the previous day. Rythe was there sleeping heavily. Clal’s older brother was also asleep upon the floor. They were all asleep on the blankets except for Clal. He looked around wondering what had waked him but could find no immediate explanation. If he had had a dream that awoke him he might not subscribe to so much worry, but he had not. He settled down again upon the stone floor and closed his eyes once more. He began to doze off but the feeling came once more. This time, he was determined to follow the sound that had begun to embark upon evening’s air.
He stepped from off his blanket and began to weave his way through the maze of boys. Clal was following a feeling, something inside of him urging him to go and seek. He reached the corner of the room and placed his hands upon the wall; it was cold to his touch. He also noticed that the ground was cold, his teeth began to chatter. After looking back to where he had once slept he turned around and pursued his intentions down the hall way.
There only light to his aid was the full moon hanging high in the sky. The stars glistened among a deep blue sky. He followed the hallway until it yielded a second pathway protruding from the first. He could either turn the corner or continue straight. Not knowing which one to follow he stopped to ponder upon this predicament. What was he doing? Why was he doing this? He looked behind him, now breathing hard. He quickly hugged the wall removing himself from the middle of the hallway. He began to feel afraid unsure of what to do.
Yet, he knew it; he knew what he was doing, he was answering a call that he had neither heard nor seen, but felt. Something was summoning him and he knew he must seek it. (Voice of the Spirit)
Clal turned to his right following the new passageway. The hallway was smaller and made with different stone, the color was unidentifiable in the darkness.
There was a torch upon the wall which was useful in its place as it illuminated a wooden door on its opposite. Clal’s doubt and fear began to return. He did not want to open the door but he knew that his entire purpose in life thus far was for him to open this door. He stood there, knowing he had to entertain it’s hinges yet wanting to be safely in his night covers back in the sleeping chamber. But if that were to be so his whole being would be divided. Something, someone, was behind this door; he knew he had been born to find out.
Clal slowly approached the door. He did not break his gaze nor did he retreat. He stretched out his arm, clasped his hand around the door knob and gently turned it till he could push the door through its frame. With heart beating rapidly he entered the room, looked around then gasped as a hand grabbed his shoulder and pulled him in. The door was immediately locked and Clal was shoved into a corner.
A huge figure approached Clal and said “Nothing…Say nothing youth.” Immediately Clal’s fear was heightened as he heard the man’s voice. He closed his eyes wishing he was not here. He tried to slowly disappear into the darkness but was blocked on all sides by furnature and the man. He felt guilty for leaving but considered the fact that he had done nothing wrong. Exploring a castle was to be an expected occurance during this time of the year when boys were to come from rural areas of the kingdom to a castle that many had never seen before. Therefore the urgency in the man’s voice was simply unwarranted. Finally Clal gazed in the stranger’s direction who was now looking straight at Clal. Their eyes met and the man said as he motioned with his extended arm, “Over there, sit, sit down.”
As Clal cautiously walked towards a chair on the other side of the room, the man lit a candle which was now flickering wall. The fear of the moment had not yet left Clal. He was unsure of what to think or do, but only waited for this moment to unfold. The man turned around and addressed Clal.
“Why are you here?” the man said.
Clal hesitated but answered in truth, “I was led here.”
The echo of is answer was broken by silence as the man simply looked at Clal. That sounded strange to Clal after he spoke that he was led here. His intention was to speak the truth but now felt immbarassed. How often is someone led to a foreign place in the depth of night with no real evidence of anything luring him there.
“Led here?” The man spoke almost to himself thrust himself into deep thought.
As the silence continued Clal felt the urge to speak but waited. He was being summoned again and he knew it, a feeling, to speak. He could not hold it in this time.
“Who are you?” Clal’s voice cracked the stillness.
“I am Morgreth. I am a wizard. I’ve traveled far to officiate during the preceedings of tomorrow’s traditional examination.” Morgreth paused, then preceeded in a softer voice. “I’ve come because the one is found.”
Suddenly Clal gasped. He had not heard, he did not know. He was confused. The One, found? How? Why weren’t the boys sent home. After all this time the One is found.
Morgreth broke the silence. “What is your name?”
“Clal Winden of Lyrune.” Clal spoke quickly.
Morgreth continued. “Have you heard much of the professies of this One?”
Clal squinted, “Some, well, no actually. Not prophecies but stories.”
“I see.” Morgreth, still standing opposite Clal walked over toward him. “What kind of stories?”
“Well, that there was a…an evil force tried to take over the ancient world, but that he was banished. The one is supposed to come, somehow, and put that force to rest.” Clal said.
“Yes. That’s correct. But there is more, much more to this tale, Clal. Do you find this idea of ‘the one’ to be reasonable?”
“What do you mean, reasonable.” Clal questioned.
“Believable. True.” Morgreth said.
Clal thought for a moment. Did he believe it? His mind reflected back to his father who told him and his family of the wonders that the one would bring and the important role he would play in the future of our world. As a boy he had never doubted these communications by his father. Clal then said, “Yes. I do.”
Morgreth then crossed the room. As he did so Clal noticed that Morgreth carried a staff of some sort. The end of the staff housed a blue stone perfect in circular shape. It was curious to Clal because as Morgreth came closer he noticed something moving inside of it. He had never seen anything that illuminated its surroundings other than fire.
Morgreth spoke, “I would like to give you a task Clal. I sense you are a trusty lad, a dependable lad and I have something for you to do.” The wizard dipped into his cloak and pulled out a black stone. It was small but heavy. “Hold out your hand Clal.” Morgreth said.
Clal received the stone but was powerless to hold it up. His hand thumped to the ground as Clal fell backwards landing on his back. Clal didn’t know what happened. It happened so quickly that he found it hard to understand why.
“Morgreth, Clal, whatever you do, resist the urge to give in. The stone is harmless once you decide to resist.” Morgreth placed his hand on his staff and said. “An odd task for you to engage in but, in time, you will understand.” Morgreth motioned to the door. “Now, it would be wise to consider sleep above curiosity. Return this stone to me in the morning. I will find you Clal. Good night.”
Finding it difficult to arise from the ground, Clal stood up and walked out of the room. He placed the stone inside one of his pockets as he walked down the hallway. Each step was laborious to enact but as he entered the main hallway he was able to keep a steady pace. Soon he reached the sleeping quarters and nestled down to rest. He thought he saw a head turn as he placed his covers over him but it was too dark to tell. He mulled the recent happenings with the wizard over and over in his mind until he slipped into sleep.
In the morning Clal was awaken by the yells of some of the boys within the room.
“Over here, I want to see it” one boy yelled.
“This way, this way; now I’ve got it” another yelled out.
A group of boys were throwing something in the corner of the room. Most of the boys were awake. All were gazing at the excitement that had recently erupted.
Clal was coming out of sleep when he heard the boys yelling. He was curious about the noises so he looked their way. They were throwing a black object around, it looked like the one that Morgreth had given him last night. Clal began to panick. He knew that he was supposed to return the stone to Morgreth later so he was a bit nervous. He fished in his pockets until he found the black stone, it was safe. Yet, what the object that the boys had looked identical to his, or so he thought; it was dark, perhaps too dark to be sure of it.
****
Clal was waiting to be examined. He watched boy after boy enter the examination room then come back out again. The number of those who were still waiting continued to diminish until there were Clal and four other boys behind him. Clal was next, he wondered what would happen once he entered the room. The door opened and out came a (servant man) who said, “Next please. Come quickly.” So Clal approached the man and walked past him into the room as the man followed him then closed the door.
The room was dimly lit which made the experience more curious to Clal. Morgreth was there as well as a few other men. There was a chair of which Morgreth motioned to Clal to seat himself in. The appearance of Morgreth brought Clal’s hand instinctively to his check where the black stone that Morgreth had given him was. It was still there, but what was it for? Amid his thought and as his gaze began to drift towards the floor, Morgreth spoke.
“What’s your name please?”
“Clal Winden”
“What region of Illia do you originate from?” Morgreth spoke as he wrote.
“From the valley of Lyrune. The cresent hills.”
“And how old are you?”
“I am fourteen.”
“Okay. Thank you Clal.” Morgreth placed the quill on the table. “Clal, each year in the city of Eldan Vyum there are examinations that are performed. The purpose is to administer certain tasks that by doing so will cause this one to be found through the unveiling of signs. My father, Felsawn the sorcerer, recorded certain information enough for one to use certain instruments to cause the signs to be exposed. This is what we will do today.”
“First, Clal, do you think that you are the ‘one’ spoken of that will rise to save this people from the aweful graspo of Womlon?” Morgreth waited.
“I don’t think I am. I can’t be.” Clal said
“Alright. Thank you. Now then…let us begin.”
Morgreth took a blue circular stone from the table and approached Clal who sat up straight in his chair. Morgreth placed the orb upon his neck for a few moments then lifted the ball up. Morgreth hovered over Clal for a moment then returned to his pen and paper and scribbled something down.
(Ideas for the exams: the symbol on the back of the neck brought out by the blue orb. His answers, the way he speaks…he will ask something that no one has ever asked. Morgreth knows because he’s been doing the examinations for years. (Morgreth has stewardship over ‘The One’ when he is found.) The symbol is a moon with possibly a star and sun.
Climax
Characters: Clal, Krothwing, Ryth, Leara, Larkin, Skyla, Sedrak, Morgreth
Setting: On the edge of Edaphlas,
Krothwing almost gets the f’element. That’s what he’s after. Womlon knows Clal, the one, is the key to obtaining the f’elements; kind of like Harry Potter in the ministry of magic how he was the only one who could obtain the sphere with the prophecy in it.
The four banished individuals, Krothwing, Imforo, Renthar, and Sceldruc, were banished, this was a sign for Morgreth and he knew that Womlon was gaining followers, or worse, he knew he was gathering those who would die to bring his cause about. The RisHk desire to destroy the source of life that banished Womlon. He must destroy the seed. But, he does not know where it is. He doesn’t know that Clal is destined to find it. Womlon wants to destroy it. He doesn’t know where it is. For some reason, he knows that ‘the one’ is destined to find it and use it against him to defeat Womlon. Because he is banished from it he will be destroyed if he gets in contact with it. Therefore, he has messengers upon Illia to do it for him.
Why are the ‘four’ banished? How do they know that each race, each hidden people have something of great value?
Clal has a mark on his neck which means that he is bound to the f’elements. The banished have a mark on their neck that signifies that they are banished from the f’elements.
There was one element that Womlon tried to get that his father kept safe. It was a stone of power, of life, of significance. The high king was the keeper of the power. This stone represented something eternal.
In the pre-mortal realm, God the Father desired for all of his children to become like him. There were two sons, one was Lucifer, son of the morning, who stated that for the children to make it back to Heavenly Father that their agency must be taken away; they would all return back, however, and Lucifer would gain all the glory. Jesus had another plan which was for him to decend below all to bring all children who would and the glory be to the father. Lucifer, fell, meaning, he was cast out, enmity was created between Lucifer and the children of men. He was no longer worthy to exist in the presence of Heavenly Father. Lucifer is on one plain and we are on another. Lucifer has servants.
In my story, Womlon wanted to destroy life or at least take control of it. This stone was the source of all life; from it flowed life, goodness, and light. He tried to take it; he wanted control, glory, and power. He became banished; this process if painful, it’s worse than being killed. He should have been killed for it.
He was greedy and didn’t want to earn things by virtue but by force. Each of the four inner-kingdoms have this form of life flowing. When Womlon tried to take, Brashna, the seed of power, he was captured and put a curse upon him by Ottomus, it is a horrible thing to endure, but it banishes him from the stone. He was cast out of his Father’s kingdom left to sorry in his never ending fate, there was many that were with him who also were cast out.
Instead of being cast off the island, he was cast away from the surroundings of the castle, basically, from his Father’s kingdom. So, he endeavored to destroy his Father’s house and get the stone.
Yet, Ottomus knew that this instance had turned the fate of the stone. He provided a plan. A ‘one’ was to be born, from a lineage that was marked by the same type of spell that was marked upon Womlon. This spell did the opposite, ‘the one’ was to bound to the stone and would always feel a pulling towards it, that it must be obtained. Ottomus knew that he must take the stone and use it against Womlon, now labeled “the dark servant.”
There was made, one stone seed with the stone of life at its core. The plan was to take this stone, far into the ocean, and create an entirely new continent that, because it was made by the stone seed, every part of the land, Womlon would be banished from the entire continent. But, one by product remained, one the stone see was taken, Womlon could then enter into his Father’s kingdom and take over.
The seed is split once the continent matures and completes it’s growth stage. It was to split so that no one else could obtain it. The seed portion remained at the core or center of Illia, the new land. If one banished guy was to obtain one of the f’elements, then they would only have a part of the whole which was what Womlon wanted. This was a tactic that was used as a safeguard against any of Womlon’s servants. But, the f’elements must be used at some point to defeat the dark one lurking. For Clal to defeat he must find the f’elements and piece them back together so that he can create the weapon to defeat Womlon. Indeed, since the sword will be made from the f’elements, if Womlon is stuck by the sword, he must be destroyed because neither the banished nor the banisher can coexist. He wanted to obtain it at first but now desires to destroy it. This is the reason for the banishment because it is eternally binding.
The servants of Womlon, ‘the four’, seek to obtain the f’elements so that they can have the keys to find the stone seed, but they fail and are banished from each inner-kingdom.

Gulnery’s Legend is the Book of Illia. He was some sort of prophet that wrote about them. But, how did he get this information? Where was this from? No one knows so they were marked as legends, stories, and myths. But, Clal must find out where this all came from. From Morgreth? From Felsawn?
Perhaps Millerun Pike’s journals were a record of Millerun’s journeys to find these places that were in the book to prove them. What did he find out? Find the journals and you’ll see.
The Book of Illia is given to them, it was a book that many people own as a book of legends upon Illia; the book of Legends is another name. Has five books within it. “The Song of Illia, The Flame of Illia, The Light of Illia, The Eye of Illia, and The Life of Illia.

“Clal, so small, so harmless. No threat you. No chance boy. I suppose you’ve been told that you are the chosen one. I’ve heard. I know. I serve the dark one. I shall tell him that the one is no match. You will die Clal. In fact, I will make sure of it. Everyone, move away from Clal, we have some things to settle.”
Krothwing leaped into the air. He was now high above Clal. All wondered at Krothwing for he had come upon them on foot. Elves can fly? Clal thought.
F’element: dark green with brown swirls in it. It looked like a blown glass. There were also traces of fiery orange almost red which were very thin, like a vein.
Krothwing had followed the party up.
Krothwing the banished: What is Krothwing banished from? Can he set foot on Edaphlas?
What if
What if the stone splits by accident and Clal needs to find where these f’elements are. In the process Clal figures out that the f’elements are hidden in four places where entire civilizations have flourished and existed.
“Clal, this isn’t possible. I don’t believe it’s feezable. It can’t be.” Ansa breathed out hardly giving time for Clal to respond.”
“Ansa,” Clal spoke without looking at her, “It would seem impossible…”
“Clal, the stones could be anywhere, ANYWHERE. Illia is so big, so wide, so vast. How, how can this be possible.”
Ryth spoke next, “They can’t just be anywhere, like in the middle of a forest or under a rock. Don’t they serve a purpose? Clal?”
“Yes, well, I don’t know. they give that which is it’s virtue. They are a life force. So, what ever it yields will be manifest on the outside.”
“Let’s examine the facts that we know.

Notes:
Clal’s lineage is bound to the seed stone.
The seed stone splits into five parts which was not foreseen by Ottomus nor by Felsawn.
Clal needs to collect the five parts, the five elements in order to defeat Womlon.
The Banished: they find out that this is the case so they seek the f’elements and are banished from them.
Felsawn desire to protect the f’elements.
Felsawn made no record of where the f’elements are hidden. They are part of the ground, deep inside.
How does Felsawn see the f’elements? How does he know that the original stone seed has split.
We find out in the fifth book that the seed has been intact; it’s still the same as it once was. What split was not the seed but just the elements, the spirit, the powers split.
Perhaps Ottomus, the plan that he created, was simply to create a place for ‘a one’ to mature without the evils of Womlon.
Clal is bound to the Illian stone.
Final thoughts for 26 July 2009: Rework the f’element idea, define why there are five and how this came to be, and for what purpose.
