Clal was covered in dirt-clostrophobia-caves
What could Clal be afraid of
What bad experience can enrich Clal’s character.
With his Father…
An animal
A cause
Could it clash with Clal’s mission?
Could it serve Womlon’s purposes?
“Clal leapt from his sleeping place in response to the noises which emitted from his surroundings. He thought he had heard the whispering of a person, but as he looked around there was no one, only the wind among the trees. He was suspicious, however, and sat up in the darkness for a long time giving way to thoughts about his journey and its ever indistinguishable end, of which had hardly begun. As he dabbled in thought, the wind continued to howl. This noise had become a comfort to Clal. There was a time, when Clal had been alone in the Cresent Hills, just beyond the norther tip, that he had been lost, frightened and alone. It was the wind that seemed to speak his name that night, to comfort him, somehow. And so it was this night that he drew from the wind a peace which could not be compared to anything that he’s experienced. It was as if the wind was speaking to him, and he was listening.”
UCS – Wind in the trees
UCR – notices the noise
CS – Wind in the trees
CR – Comfort
Extinquishment of the conditioned response: Perhaps, if Clal had some negative experiences with the noise such as being in an undesirable place while the wind howled or witnessing a death of a significantly important figure to Clal while the wind was howling would be a way.
(Note: After finishing this excersise I realized that you probably wanted an example in the classroom. I apologize.)
