Book 1 Continuity Index — The Dragon Summoner
Lightweight, Book-1-only reference. Built from book1-scene-outline.md (the as-written manuscript) cross-checked against every locked decision in legends-log.md. Where the two disagree, this file follows the log — the outline describes the current draft, this file describes where the draft needs to land after the hygiene pass. Anything still open is flagged as such, not guessed at.
Use this to answer "does X still work" while doing the hygiene pass and edit pass, without re-reading the whole manuscript or the whole log every time.
1. Character Roster (post-fix)
| Character | Role | Status in Book 1 | Key continuity notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clal | Protagonist, Chosen One, earth wielder | Present throughout | Raised by Goran/Willa (aunt/uncle), not birth parents. Twin to Ansa. Sword forged by Talon 44 yrs earlier, fuses with crystal at climax. |
| Ansa | Clal's twin, air wielder + twin-empathy sense | Present throughout | Goes through her own door at the sub-ocean climax (new — see §4). Obtains Nilthinon crystal later in series (physical/wordless crystal reaction, not voice). |
| Rythe | Childhood friend, party member | Present throughout | Wielder status still unresolved — raised Ch.14/15 in-text, never answered. Later revealed as Renthar's son (Book 6 payoff) — Book 1 must NOT foreshadow this yet. Obtains Mirrim crystal in Book 6. |
| Turl | Goran/Willa's oldest son, Clal's cousin (raised as older brother) | Present Ch.1–3, reappears end of Ch.19 | NOT Clal's uncle — fixed in log. Cottage portal lands in his hands. |
| Goran / Willa | Clal & Ansa's aunt/uncle, raised them | Ch.1 only | Willa is Nareete's sister (Clal/Ansa's mother's side) — confirms Goran/Willa's own kids (Turl, Gree, Mina) carry no wielder bloodline, consistent with them never showing power. |
| Gree / Mina | Goran/Willa's other children | Ch.1, Ch.3 | Gree's carved stones = the trigger, not the source, of Clal/Ansa's wielding (bloodline is the source — see §3). Gree himself never awakens power, consistent with the rule. |
| Talon | Blacksmith, forged Clal's sword, kidnapped by Renthar | Off-page after Ch.9 (captured), referenced throughout | Captivity resolved, no fix needed — RISHK need him alive specifically because he's unstained by banishment and can cross the hidden-kingdom wards (log 2026-07-23). Rescue is a Book 2 thread. |
| Morgrith | Royal Examiner, confirms Clal as Chosen One | Ch.5–10 (on-page), referenced after | Confirmed Felsawn's son, full First Family member, and Longkept (life extended for his mission). His absolute-secrecy vow (Ch.6/Ch.8, ~lines 1142 & 2022) needs softening in the hygiene pass — see §6. |
| Gulnerye | Skylander, author of Book of Legends, keeper of Amnbir | Ch.11 | Likely Longkept (implied ancient, present at Skyland's Rising). |
| Gwynn | Royal seamstress, Ansa's mentor | Ch.4, 7, 9 | Knew Nareete (Clal/Ansa's mother). Told Clal is Chosen One directly Ch.9. |
| Lyoria | Royal maiden, secret order member | Ch.7 | Part of a pre-existing order expecting a Chosen One; not confirmed on-page as told it's specifically Clal. |
| Jestro / Seloromus | Castle guards secretly loyal to Morgrith | Ch.8–9 | Jestro reacts as if he already expects the Chosen One ("our great deliverer"). |
| Sedrak | Ancient ice dragon (twist: white but breathes ice) | Ch.18–19 | Confirmed as own immortal category — angel-coded, not a Longkept, not bound by banishment/Longkept magic system. |
| Renthar | RISHK leader | Ch.2 (Rythe's story), Ch.9, 13, 14 (on-page/overheard) | Rythe's father — huge Book 6 reveal. Book 1 must play him as a straightforward antagonist with zero tell. Element/kingdom: Earth (Mirrim). |
| Krothwing / Skeldruc / Imforo | RISHK members | Various, overheard/on-page | Elements confirmed: Krothwing = Air (kingdom unnamed), Skeldruc = Light (Nilthinon), Imforo = Fire (Kelvkoroth). |
| Womlon (alias Hanone-Thaine) | True mastermind behind RISHK | Named only in Ch.18 (Sedrak's exposition) as "Womlon," threat to Hanone | Not physically present in Book 1's text at all — correct, per log (RISHK report to him, he doesn't appear). Element: Water (Illia). Immortality mechanism still open (§7 below). |
| Orry / Aerol | Minor characters, reveal King Emesh/RISHK alliance | Ch.6, 16 | No changes needed. |
| ~~L-Ansa~~ | CUT from Book 1 entirely | Was Ch.16–19 | Her 73 references get redistributed to Clal/Ansa/Rythe in the hygiene pass — see §6. Do not treat her as a Book 1 character in any new work. |
| ~~Larkin / Skyla~~ | Not in Book 1 | N/A | Confirmed Book 2, Ch.2 arrival — resolves the old "named in the roster but never appear" contradiction. No Book 1 fix needed. |
2. Location Tracker
| Location | Used for | Continuity flag |
|---|---|---|
| Lyrune valley / Crescent Keep | Clal & Ansa's home | — |
| Eldan Vyum | The city, castle, Examination | — |
| Reubus | (a) Winden parents' new home (warm, since Ch.1); (b) RISHK's own rendezvous point (Prologue, Ch.13 — "move Talon to Reubus") | Resolved 2026-10-20: Reubus = family home only. RISHK rendezvous renamed Sagronof (fix lines 166, 3650; standardize "Reubis" at 1516). Not yet in the decision log; needs a Josh call during the hygiene pass: intentional converging threat, or rename one Reubus to avoid coincidence? |
| Amnbir | Gulnerye's ruin, crystal-keeper lore | Has door/portal imagery already (Ansa compares Dawning-of-Time doors to "ones at Amnbir" in the ending) — not the same as the new death-portal/three-doors idea (that's a separate, later, series-level concept, not Book 1). |
| Edaphlas | Floating island, sky/wind kingdom | Confirmed home of Larkin/Skyla (arrive Book 2). |
| Kelvkoroth | Fire kingdom | Book 2 quest, not Book 1 — per log, Book 1's climax currently has Clal claim the Fire Crystal already, which is now confirmed wrong and needs cutting/rewriting (§6). |
| Cliffs of the Dawning of Time | Book 1's climax chamber, 5-crystal altar | Altar's 5-hole design is fine as a locked-series structure; the problem is Book 1 populating one of those holes with a crystal it shouldn't have yet (§6). Also the confirmed literal ending point of Book 1 — no further content needed. |
| Hanone | Ancestral homeland, Sedrak's origin, Womlon's domain | Series-level, correctly left underdeveloped in Book 1 — Sedrak's Ch.18 exposition is the appropriate amount of setup. |
3. Magic System — Locked Rule (supersedes the outline's "three conflicting explanations")
Bloodline determines who can wield; Gree's carved stones are the trigger/catalyst, not the source. A dormant capacity, already present by blood (specifically Dalbus's bloodline), gets activated by the stones — which is also why Gree himself, unmarked by blood, carved them without ever awakening anything.
"Chosen One" and "wielder" are separate categories. Chosen One = unique, series-spanning destiny (Clal only). Wielder = broader marked-bloodline trait, can apply to multiple people (Ansa, later Leara, etc.) without making them "the" Chosen One.
This resolves the outline's flagged inconsistency (Threads to Resolve #3) — no manuscript fix needed for the rule itself, since nothing in the text actually states a wrong rule outright, it just left the question open. Worth a light-touch confirming line somewhere in the hygiene pass if it reads ambiguous to a fresh reader, but not mandatory.
Wielder-power names (all five, canon): lumina (light), aeross (air), pyronin (fire), geosa (earth), aquios (water).
Crystal behavior: inert to anyone chasing raw force (why RISHK find them dead rock); function as a spirit/voice conduit for Illia. Speaks aloud only to Clal. Physical/wordless reaction for others (Rythe at Mirrim, Ansa at Nilthinon — both later books, not Book 1).
4. Book 1 Climax — What Actually Happens (post-fix)
Per the outline's Ch.17–19 breakdown, cross-checked against the log's newest structural call:
- Clal alone passes through all four elemental doors underwater (locked Book 1 ⟷ Book 6 mirror — solo trial, do not change).
- New, confirmed: Rythe and Ansa also go through a door — a different one from Clal's — while waiting in the boat. What happens to them is not revealed until Book 2, Ch.1–2.
- This slots into the manuscript's own existing unfinished sentence (~line 4560, right after Clal's fourth door): "Clal scanned the scene, spied glowing lights a mile down the shore, then gasped. With a great thrust from an unknown force, …" — that cutoff is the moment Rythe/Ansa get pulled through. Not a new gap to write, an existing one to fill.
- Clal reunites with the party (now a trio, not a quartet — no L-Ansa), and the Cliffs of the Dawning of Time sequence proceeds without the Fire Crystal already in hand (that's Book 2's payoff) — altar scene needs rewriting so nothing gets placed in it prematurely, or the scene's function changes to something that doesn't require a crystal.
- Ending is unchanged and correct as-written: apple-scented portal home, Turl's cottage, "Turl! We're back!"
5. Chosen-One Secrecy Tracker (post-fix intent)
The outline's existing count-up table (Ch.6 → Ch.16) is accurate to the current draft and doesn't need re-verifying line by line. What changes in the hygiene pass is only Morgrith's own promise, not the leak sequence itself:
- Old (Ch.6, ~line 1142; Ch.8/~line 2022): absolute "you and I will be the only ones who ever know."
- New (to be written): something realistic — guard this closely, trust only those who've earned it.
- Everything downstream (Ansa/Rythe told same day, Gwynn told directly, Lyoria's order already expecting a Chosen One, etc.) stays as-is — the actual disclosure pattern in the text becomes the intended behavior once the vow is softened, so no other scene needs touching.
6. Hygiene-Pass Checklist (consolidated, nothing done yet)
Pulled together from the log's scattered to-do items — this is the actual punch list for phase 3:
- Fire Crystal contradiction. Cut/rewrite Clal's line "I have taken the stone from Kelvkoroth... the Fire Crystal" (~line 4464) and the surrounding 5-crystal altar scene so Book 1 doesn't pre-empt the Book 2 Kelvkoroth quest.
- Morgrith's secrecy vow. Soften the absolute-secrecy lines at ~1142 and ~2022 (see §5).
- L-Ansa redistribution. 73 references across the manuscript, sorted into: (a) functional/mechanical beats — her light-source role passes to Clal's sword, which the text already implies used to glow; (b) dialogue/relational beats — fold into Ansa or Rythe by scene tone; (c) plain group-scene presence — delete cleanly to a trio; (d) plot-load-bearing/unique material — needs individual judgment, flag each one as it's found.
- Missing Kelvkoroth/L-Ansa episode (outline's Threads #1). Now moot as a "fill the gap" problem — since L-Ansa and the Fire Crystal are being pulled from Book 1 entirely, this isn't a scene to write, it's a scene to make sure is fully gone (Ch.16's abrupt L-Ansa appearance and the "Lear"/L-Ansa name-typo mentioned in outline Threads #2 both disappear with her).
- The unfinished sentence at ~line 4560 — rewrite/complete it to actually depict Rythe and Ansa being pulled through their own door (§4), rather than leaving it dangling.
7. Confirmed Open Questions (not blockers, don't fix pre-emptively)
Carried from legends-log.md's Open Items and illian-world-lite.md's Open Questions — listed here only so the hygiene/edit pass doesn't accidentally "resolve" them by implication:
- Rythe's own wielder status (raised outline Ch.14/15, never answered) — leave ambiguous unless Josh says otherwise; don't let a rewritten scene accidentally confirm or deny it.
- The two unexplained Ch.3 supernatural beats (fire-people vision, woman's-face-in-the-river) — leave as unresolved foreshadowing, don't cut or explain them away during hygiene work.
- The chest scroll that "won't budge" (Ch.8) — leave as a planted future hook.
- The Prologue's unidentified "large man" — leave ambiguous; the payoff isn't in this book.
- Womlon's water-immortality mechanism — tabled idea only (draws air from water / lives in a bubble), not committed.
- ~~Reubus double-duty~~ — resolved 2026-10-20 (Sagronof). See
legends-log.md. - Wielder spell-phrases ("terms and matrix") — still being hunted, unrelated to hygiene-pass work.
Built 2026-07-30 from book1-scene-outline.md + legends-log.md. This file should be kept in sync manually as new decisions land — re-check it against the log before major hygiene/edit-pass work sessions rather than assuming it's still current after a long gap.
