# Old Notes Pass — What the Archive Says About Tonight's Decisions

*Built 2026-10-20 overnight. I searched the full archive in `legends of clal hub - july 22 2026/` (read-only, nothing touched) for anything that ties into the Book 1 rebuild. Questions this raises are in `questions-for-josh.md`.*

## What I covered
- Pulled the text out of 201 Word files, 64 old .doc files, 39 markdown files and the Novelcrafter export.
- **Read in full:** every Thought Dump (Hanone and Before, Pre-Series Illia, Books 1–5, Places, General, Character), `EIGHT BOOKS 4.0`, `Magic System`, `Random (Cool) Ideas`, `Scripture and Theme`, `The Book of Legends`, `Mother Earth`, `The Fire People`, `Womlon's Domain`, `Notes from "Old Stuff" Review`, `Story Arcs`, `The Prophecy`, and "Seldinolum."
- **Searched by keyword:** `6 Book Plot - ABT`, `Format Conversation`, the August 2022 writers' group files, `Clal Synopsis 10-10-07`, `Book 1 - Order of Events v2`, `Climax Scene`, and the `2008 Master World Bible`.
- **Not covered:** the roughly 20 full old manuscript drafts (2008–2025), and 27 PDFs (no PDF reader on this machine). The .pages files were decoded back in July.

**The most important file in the archive is `EIGHT BOOKS 4.0.docx`** (at the hub root). It's a full scene-by-scene beat outline of Book 1, plus the start of Book 2 and Book 6. It's the most developed plan you've written, and much of it matches tonight.

## 1. Found: the spell "terms and matrix" you've been hunting since July

It's in **`EIGHT BOOKS 4.0`**, at the start of the Book 2 section:

| Purpose | Word | Gesture |
|---|---|---|
| **Call** (summon an element) | **somon** | Hand at chest level, pull in, muscles tense, palm open. Focus the mind. "Feel as if you are the element." |
| **Command** (move it) | **morpho** | Hand shows where the element should go and how fast. Palm open. "Feel as if you are the element wanting to move." |
| **Curse** (attack) | **thrysta** | Quick move of hand and arm toward the enemy. **Fisted.** "Feel the energy mounting." |

**Elements:** **pyros** (fire), **aqueos** (water), **aeros** (air), **geos** (earth), **lumos** (light).

The same file shows how it's used. Clal says **"somon pyros"** to call a fire-door to him at the Sands of Illusion. It fails four times and works the fifth, when he thinks of everyone standing with him. Neleen (see section 4) says: *"The words are to help focus the mind and are needed after you make these things become natural."* Larkin and Skyla knew the words but had "long forgotten" them, having learned to fly as children.

**Note:** these differ slightly from the 2022 power names in your manuscript notes (lumina, aeross, pyronin, geosa, aquios). Those look like the *names of the powers*; these are the *spoken words*. Both can exist. That's question 1 in the questions file.

## 2. Old notes that back up what you decided tonight

You weren't inventing from scratch tonight. A lot of it was already in you.

| Tonight's decision | What the old notes say | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Rythe's story split in two, finished later | *"Rythe tries to tell story but goes vague and makes up ending... after Talon can't be found... he finishes the story."* | General Thought Dump (bedtime ideas, July 2022) |

## 3. Direct answers to things still open tonight

### The horn (the biggest hole left in Book 1)
In `EIGHT BOOKS 4.0`, the **Dragon Summoner is found in the Hero's Chamber**: *"nothing makes sense, must trust. But the Dragon Summoner is there, and Clal feels something strong within. They turn to conversations about the dragon and focus on picture of dragon and everything 'dragon.' That becomes their central focus."* The 2022 writers'-group chapter also has Clal wearing "the necklace and dragon summoner" around his neck through the doors.
→ **This solves where the horn comes from** without L-Ansa, and fits tonight's Hero's Chamber, where they're called to find the dragon. To keep the person-or-thing ambiguity, the horn can sit there unnamed: a carved white horn nobody calls "the Dragon Summoner" yet.

### The boat (L-Ansa used to make it)
`EIGHT BOOKS 4.0`, Ch.16–17: up the river they meet *"someone kind, a wielder of old who can tell these three are something special."* The next morning *"the woman offers for them to take her boat and oars."*
→ No combined wielding needed. Another quiet wielder helping "kin" fits Gwynn's thread too.

### The river by the orchard
`EIGHT BOOKS 4.0`, Ch.16: *"this water comes from a spring that flows outward feeding the other river. **Place of Four Waters**, and the spring flows in four directions."* The Places notes add the **Four Waters fountain** in Eldan Vyum, which flows *up* the walls (backwards) until the end of days, when it reverses.
→ A clean fix for the "river from the ocean" problem: the orchard's lake is fed by one of the four waters from that spring. That makes the orchard part of the series' end-times sign.

### The three-door "death portal" (half-remembered in July)
It's **the Arches of Amnbr**: *"3 door ways will stand in the land of Cul. This is where the two wizards and others will come through... Delvin's door may also yield a few major characters that died during the course of the story."* `Story Arcs` adds: *"Ottomus, Felsawn, and Morgreth walk through the three arches."* `Notes from "Old Stuff"`: *"3 arches - the 3 tests."*

### The woman's face in the river
`EIGHT BOOKS 4.0`, Ch.2: Clal tests the stone in the stream, *"a woman stands behind him in the reflection... feels familiar feelings, comfort."* At the climax, *"the mist gathers and becomes a woman resembling the woman in the reflection. She repeats the prophecy."*
`Character Thought Dump` and `Mother Earth`: the **Lady Wind, the Lady of the Pool, the Mirror Maiden and the Fair Flame of Nilthinon are all one woman, Mother Earth (Illia)**. The reader thinks there are four. Book 5 reveals there's one.
→ The face in the river is Illia, the first of her appearances.

### The voice only Clal hears
`The Book of Legends` notes: *"Along with the book, there is a voice that comes from it (the holy ghost type pattern)... It's Illia... but they don't know it. Learn to hear THE VOICE. Faint at first."*
→ Matches the July decision that the crystals speak only to Clal. It may be the same voice.

### The scroll that won't budge
`The Book of Legends`: *"Sealed portion... no way of opening it... Open at beginning of 5th book. Or some special time, in parts."*
→ The immovable scroll in the Hero's Chamber chest could be the Book of Legends' sealed portion.

### Larkin and Skyla
- **Twins.** Elves from Edaphlas who fly. *"Lark: an elf that can float or fly... His people are known for their song."* That makes Larkin male. Skyla is his twin sister. In Book 2 she rides behind Rythe and flirts.
- In older drafts they **rescue Clal in the ice dimension** at Book 1's climax ("three angels... but they are not angels... Sedrak and the twins, Skyla and Larkin"). That conflicts with the July lock that they first appear in Book 2, Ch.2. See section 5.
- Gifts from the sage Elnycula: Larkin gets a **calling horn**, Skyla a **flute**.

### Gwynn
- *"Gwynn is Willa's friend."* That's why Willa's instructions point to her.
- She gives Ansa the sun-moon-star coin: *"It was mine once."*
- She tells them what the symbol means.
- She's *"adopted [by?] Morgreth but much older than Morgreth"* (unclear in the notes).

## 4. New material from the old notes that could tie in (not canon until you say so)

**Characters**
- **Neleen**, the twins' mother's identical twin sister, an elf, in the elves' Wooded Kingdom of the south. In `EIGHT BOOKS 4.0` the twins' mother is **Shailendra**, an elf wielder who mastered three of the five elements and left to find a mentor. That makes Clal and Ansa **Melds (half-elf)**. Neleen: *"It was the Wielder War. She must be locked in [an inner kingdom]."* **This conflicts with current canon** (mother = Nareete, Willa = her sister). See questions.
- **Elnycula the Sage**, an animal/nature woman in the southern mountains, who gives each of the six a gift.
- **King Fendaln**, the elf king of the South (Wooded Kingdom). **King Emish**, from the North: big, loud, black curly hair, nosy, secretly aiding the RISHK. *"King Emish is found to be the perfect contact between Hanone and Cul."* **King Nelbierd/Neldeer**, Eldan Vyum.
- **Millurin Pike**, a famous author of tales about the inner kingdoms. Clal finds his journals and carries them for books.
- **The Speaking Tree**, Clal's twin in life force. It's in the Dawning of Time chamber, sprouted when Clal was born, and **wilts when he's on the wrong path.** It's almost dead before the end.
- **The Four Waters Maidens**, the **Roaming Wisemen**, and the **7 Council Members**.

**Rythe's dagger (important, and already in Book 1)**
In your existing manuscript, Rythe tells the riders: *"this dagger was left to me by my father. It means a great deal to me."* In `EIGHT BOOKS 4.0`, a dagger from his father is *"the mark of Rythe's lineage... once owned by Renthar... that will help win him back to the Light Side,"* with azure light stone in the blade.
→ **Book 1 already plants Renthar's dagger in Rythe's hand.** Keep it, never explain it, and pay it off in Book 6.

**The exam's three criteria for the One**
- Book 1 Thought Dump: *"From the East; Brings light stone, pure, blue; Not supposed to be there, accident."*
- `EIGHT BOOKS 4.0`: *"brought a stone, not supposed to be there, orphaned."*
- Clal now meets all of them: the blue stone from his parents, smuggled in underage, and just learned he's an orphan.
- Order of Events v2 also has the exam *"shine[s] over his heart, then his forehead, then finally on the back of his neck"*, revealing a **mark on the back of the neck** from Ottomus's bloodline spell.

**The Hero's Chamber, older version**
*"A sister stone lights up on the wall... 'go ahead, push it.'"* *"On the floor of the chamber it says 'At the Last' (which means this is where they must go in the very end... this is where Illia is hidden)."*
→ You mentioned dragon references in the chamber floor tonight. The old floor carried words.

**The six statues**
In Eldan Vyum, *"they learn of the 6 statues, prophesied, Clal sees himself and the sword. Ansa and Rythe find themselves... but the statues have no faces."*
→ Your manuscript's exam-hall statue ("Seldinolum and his brave companions") could be this: six faceless figures.

**The sun, moon and stars symbol, decoded (from your own notes)**
- **Sun** = the sword, named **"The Sun."** *"Who only can unlock the Sun."*
- **Moon** = Clal, from Lyrune, the valley of crescent hills ("Lyrune means moon").
- **Stars** = *"5 stars — companions"* (Elnycula). Older: the stars as guidance, "like the Holy Ghost."
→ The coin you locked tonight (a dragon, five points, sun, moon, stars) could read as **the sword, Clal, and his five companions**. The six of them in one symbol.

**RISHK color and travel**
- *"Red is color of rishk. Blood... and their dragon is white turned red."* *"Anti-Sedrak: white dragon mutated to red dragon."* (See conflicts.)
- How they travel: *"Krothwing flys on a creature. Renthar travels through caves that are enchanted. Skeldruc travels through reflections. Imforo travels through shadows and through fire."*
- *"Perhaps one of the Rishk travels with Clal undercover... like Snape... in the end turns against Womlon."*

**Womlon**
- His boyhood journal, ages 10–17: he hunts for his father's secret stone, the source of all the earth's power, and **attacks his father at 17.** That mirrors Clal turning 17.
- *"Seeks crystals because they will give him the power to... break through the magic wall of banishment. 'If my kingdom touches Illian land, I am released.'"*
- *"Womlon has cracked the code, he's 'figured out' the magic that runs through Clal's veins."*
- *"People say they are beginning to see a dark figure out on the horizon of the ocean, or lights."*
- The **7 stone portal** to his abode: touch the seven floating stones in order and a whirlpool pulls you under. That's the Prologue's "place of the seven stones."

**Sedrak**
- *"He should die in the end to seal his mission with his blood."* That pairs naturally with the exposed spot over his heart.
- *"Shunned from his race and rescued by Wizard One... perhaps an albino."*
- Breathes ice on the ocean to build an island, ices the seed stone, then hibernates on a cold mountain *"until 'The One' is to come and find him and call him to his final duty."* (A summoner calling him to his final duty.)
- *"Hanone means land of white dragons."*
- *"Perhaps the dragon will aid here as he 'gave birth to her'"* — Sedrak and Illia, the land he seeded.

**Theme and structure**
- **"The Legends of Clal":** *"All legends are really false on Cul. No one is able to prove them correct. Yet, by Clal's powers the pathway to each Legend is uncovered and unlocked... he has the power to unleash, the power to undo."* That's where the series title comes from, and it echoes tonight's "once the dragon is unleashed."
- Clal is *"always drawn to the east like his future is out there beyond the ocean."* That's a ready-made private longing for Lindsay's "what does Clal want."
- *"Each book Clal should have different motives"*, a list from Fear and Duty through Love and "To understand self."
- Hands as the magic symbol: five kingdoms, five fingers. *"Bad guys use left hand, right hand good."*
- *"Rythe carries a flute"* (old). *"Rythe lives in the Meldin Forest."*
- *"Celebration evening before Examination — they hope and pray and ask for the chosen one to come."*
- Clal's look: *"ice blue eyes, white/blond hair, one blue eye and one gray, changes with mood, sideways half smile."* Fatal flaw: *"Curiosity."*

**Kingdom names from the old notes**
- Outer kingdoms: North, King Blorien and Queen Lisreetha. East, Queen Othransa. South, King Narin. West, King Emish.
- Inner kingdoms: Kelvkoroth, Princess Rinica. Mirrim, King Daxius.
- *(Your manuscript now has King Emesh of the **Northern** Realm. The old notes have him in the West in one file and from the North in another.)*

## 5. Conflicts between the old notes and current canon

These are flags, not problems. Current canon (`legends-log.md`) wins unless you say otherwise.

| Topic | Old notes | Current canon | Question # |
|---|---|---|---|
| The twins' mother | Shailendra, an elf; her twin sister is Neleen; the twins are half-elf Melds | Nareete; Willa is her sister | Q10 |
| Larkin and Skyla in Book 1 | They rescue Clal in the ice dimension and join at the end of Book 1 | First appear Book 2, Ch.2 | Q11 |
| Larkin's fate | *"Larkin was never meant to marry. He dies. Skyla may die too. They return through the Arches in the End."* | All six pair into three couples | Q12 |
| Sedrak's breath | One note says *"Not ice dragon"*; others say ice dragon | Ice dragon (in the manuscript) | Q14 |
| A corrupted dragon for the RISHK | *"Their dragon is white turned red."* | July 23: no black dragon (Womlon already fills that role) | Q15 |
| The unfinished sentence at manuscript line 4550 ("With a great thrust from an unknown force") | `EIGHT BOOKS 4.0`: *"Clal is thrust off into the ocean by Krothwing"* | July 23: that's Rythe and Ansa pulled through their own door | Q16 |
| Clal's element | *"They are wielders of light, and so is Clal"* (2022 group notes) | Earth (manuscript Ch.13) | Q17 |
| Book order | EIGHT BOOKS 4.0: B2 Tides, B3 Sands, B4 Skyland, B5 Twisted Peak | Locked July 23: B2 Twisted Peak (Kelvkoroth) | (no question; flagged only) |
| East vs West | Clal's family is on Illia's **east** coast ("Look to the East to find the One") | Manuscript line 4436: Clal says "I come from the **West**, from the Valley of Lyrune" | Q18 |
| Years since the exodus | 800 (to differ from Lehi's 600) | ~600 | (minor) |
| Rythe's entry | *"Rythe enters the story in the castle not in chapter 1"* | Joins on the road in Ch.2 | (settled tonight) |
| Who wrote the Book of Legends | Felsawn (Random Ideas); Gulnerye (EIGHT BOOKS 4.0 and the manuscript) | Gulnerye | (settled) |

---

## 6. One more thing I noticed: where "L-Ansa" came from

In the `Character Thought Dump`, Morgreth's list of companions reads *"Love: **Leara**: his twin sister will help here."* In an early version **Leara was Clal's twin.** When the twin became Ansa, a find-and-replace probably turned one "Leara/Lear" into "Ansa," which produced "L-Ansa" and the one stray "Lear" the July outline caught. It's further confirmation she was never meant to be a separate Book 1 character.
